Why is my MacBook Pro is not charging?

I have a Unibody MacBook Pro Mid-2012,

It doesn't seem to charge the battery. The system says "Not Charging", while the battery is plugged in, and it shuts off randomly (10 minutes to 2 hours uptime).

This is quite frustrating, I presumed it was a bad battery, so I ordered a new one. The new battery also didn't charge, however it stopped the random shutdowns, until it drained to 0%, when the same thing happened.

I have tried multiple magsafe adapters, their light is orange for the first second, then turns to green. If I take off the bottom plate I can hear an interval ticking noise near the magsafe port while it's plugged in. I don't believe this is normal. My suspicion is the magsafe board is broken, but I'm not sure.

I have already tried resetting the SMC.

Can anyone else verify the magsafe board is the problem?

Lets get some diagnostic info here. Download this gem of an app: CoconutBattery. Then with the MagSafe charger plugged in take a screen capture of the main window so we can see whats happening. Do a second capture with the charger disconnected. Once you have them post them in an answer so we can see whats happening.

The battery is at 0%, I can't take one without the charger, and right now it's shutting off before I can do anything with the charger in. I'm on vacation so I don't have my other charger (It seems to work for longer if I use that charger, it has a higher wattage), so I can't even provide that screenshot for a little while. I will provide that screenshot when possible though.

Lets check the MagSafe charger and its connections. Review this Apple T/N: Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters. Let us know if you see something out of place.

I took a look, it looks like this computer needs a charger at least 60W. I only brought my 45W charger since the main one I use was making that ticking noise. I will try a different charger sometime in the next few days.

That does make a difference! Let us know how it goes.

Hi! I've finally had time to work with it again. When I used the correct charger again, it won't start up. The SIL (I think?) is blinking periodically. One second on, one second off. It does not fade unless I hit the power button, but then it continues to blink.

Also, it seems like that ticking noise I was hearing happens right when the light pulses on, and when the fan receives power.

EDIT: Strangely it consistently will boot up if I hold down the power button when I attach the charger. The fan is on a very high speed when it gets turned on like this. It still gives the blinking light otherwise. I believe there's something wrong with the magsafe board, but I can't say for sure.

EDIT 2: Strangely my battery icon is gone from the menu bar at the top of the screen, and the physical battery indicator icon does nothing.

EDIT 3: If I enable "Show battery status in menu bar" it shows for a second then turns itself off.

Disconnect the battery from the logic board and then just power it with the MagSafe adapter does the SIL still blink and does the fan finally slow down?

The macbook does not turn on. However, the SIL fades in for a second, like a normal startup, then the SIL turns off.

Have you try unplugging the Ram then plugging them back? It worked for me.
