Used a sticky note to keep track of tiny screws.
Water damage to the original.
Closeness. Just followed the instructions on the website.
Make sure to find a system to sorting the screws as you take them out. They are so small, telling them apart is nearly impossible.
I was crazy about not being able to use the home button, running out of battery and not being able to sync nor properly charge my phone.
the repair took me a while, but in the end everything went swell.
Make sure that when replacing the home button, by the time you get to separate the screen from the body of the phone there's some stubborn glue right over the home button area. You might think you are missing a screw in there, but just be patient and work it nice and smooth and eventually you'll be able to tackle that glued portion surrounding the home button.

The bottom microphone would only work intermittently so I could hear people who called me but after a few seconds, they could not hear me. Eventually, it stopped working altogether.
Ordered a new dock connector (which has the microphone attached) and smartphone repair kit and watched the video a couple of times and read the instructions a couple of times too. The battery needed some prying to get it out of the glue, and the home button ribbon cable is so tiny, it took a few tries to get it together properly. Also the main ribbon connector took some patience to get it seated properly. The whole process took about 30 minutes because I was being extremely slow and careful. SUCCESS!! It fired back up and now works perfectly. Although a bit daunting to start with, I now look back and it seems like the easiest thing to do. Great instructions - anyone can do this!
Watch for plastic sheet tabs that have to be peeled off the new part.
Order the repair kit - it has all the tools you need and the little boxes for all the screws really help.
The home button ribbon cable is small and hard to see. It looks like it lays on top of the connector, but it actually slides into a minuscule slot on the side opposite the little pop-up clamp. Tweezers were a must.
Don't force the main ribbon cable connector back on. When it's carefully aligned it will snap into place and you'll know you got it right by the little click you'll hear.

Back cover broken, and battery and dock connector problems.
In reviewing your step by step instructions before ordering parts. I determined bottom screws needed the recommended replacements. Ordered parts and kit and all arrived in a few days. Sat down used my magnetic pad, previously ordered, and only used tools provided in kits. The instructions were very helpful, and were right on on possible problems I might encounter. In a short time, and day, I had completed tasks, charging and phone back in use.
Reviewing instructions, and using magnetic pad, and tweezers have always been a great help. Do not under estimate your self, you can do it!

My iPhone 4 had a bad dock connector which caused have phone to have no sound.
the Process was simple compared to other iPods i have taken apart. the plastic opening tools make the removal of fragile components easier, perfect for me who is good at screwing up and breaking things. it took 15 minutes and the phone is like new.
If you phone breaks go to ifixit and get the tools and components you need.

My iPhone 4 wouldn't charge or sync
The repair it's self went well but I had to troubleshoot. The video was more than help for getting everything removed and put back together. The only problem I had was that once I put everything back together I still had the same problem, no charge or sync. After two tries, turns out the connector didn't seat properly into the logic board, it needs to click, a small click. After that bam! good as new!!
Make sure your docking connector cable seats and clicks into the logic board. Otherwise it won't work. It's small and a little trying but it needs to be seated properly and will give a small click once in place.

My iphone 4 dock connector stopped accepting charges with the message "This accessory may not be supported". And that was with Apple cables and chargers. All attempts to clean the dock connector yielded no results.
It was fairly straight forward, just keep a paper, pen, and tape handy to identify and secure screws at each step.
I had to redo the procedure because my home button didn't work the first time. You really could use a magnifying glass for this process. I managed to seat the home button cable properly the 2nd time, then everything worked.

Dead phone, Apple said they couldn't fix it. Water damage to the dock
Fantastic... easy to follow instructions, tools worked well and I now have a cool see-through back on the phone!
I used a magnifying light to see all the fiddly stuff (like making sure the screws were turning, not cross-threaded, etc.)

Fixed bad volume down button and port connector.
Very hard install on the volume control. If you are not comfortable with the very small parts do not try.
Utilize some type of glue to help stick the tiny parts together besides the adhesive they come with.
