Description

At iFixit, we're on a quest to reuse and repurpose electronics that are beyond repair. In fact, we have a special team of innovators dedicated exclusively to this pursuit. Lately, our innovators have been working on alternative uses for broken headphone jacks from 5th Generation iPods. Here's what they've come up with:

  • feather stand
  • noodle holder
  • a permanent living situation for dust bunnies

If you're not quite ready to resign your 5th Gen iPod to being a permanent noodle holder, feather stand, or a home for dozens of cute dust bunnies, don't fret. We sell replacement headphone jacks with hold switch so you can restore your iPod Video 30 GB back to prime working condition, instead of selflessly giving dust bunnies the chance to put down roots.

NOTE: This part works only for the iPod Video 30 GB. For the 60 or 80 GB version, buy this part. Not sure which iPod you have? ID your iPod. Identify part by 632-0371 or 821-0399 printed on orange ribbon cable.

Go slow, be careful and patient. Very rewarding repair to be able to complete on my own. Now I can enjoy my U2 classic again. Thank you ifixit!

Mon problème

This iPod had a flaky headphone connector for quite a while. After one more fall to the ground it totally cut out. Opening it up it was easy to see that the ribbon band connecting the headphone jack assembly was broken.

Ma solution

This was a very easy repair (especially compared to the newer iPods and iPhones). . . .

Mon problème

No battery power - Headset jack not working

Ma solution

Awesome every thing work great now - only complaint the plastic tools to remove the case fell apart pretty easily - 1 use only. i also purchased the complete tool kit from IFIXIT - it had everyting i needed to do the repair.

Mon conseil

make the removal tool stronger

Mon problème

The sand was incidental, probably from hanging out on the beach a lot. The problem was the head phone jack was on the fritz. Mono sound= no good. Had to get back to Stereo.

Ma solution

It was a little sketchy. The case is definitely the hardest part to get open, disconnecting the ribbon cables is easy if you go . . .

Mon problème

I can't open my iPod U2 cause of dead battery so I try to open without any pre-information so I cut the hold switch button cable :/ but thanks to iFixit I cover both of them.

Ma solution

It was pretty smoot. With little information about iPod U2 things got easier and easier. It took about 30 minutes. Bad thing a . . .

Mon problème

My 6-year-old iPod Video had started flaking out on me when the headphone jack started failing. The battery hadn't been holding a charge for more than half an hour, either, and the display had a few dead pixels from being dropped a couple of times. Yeah, it needed some work.

Ma solution

The repairs went pretty w . . .

-I've recently bought a used ipod really cheap, but it came with some problems; the battery, audio jack and the click wheel button. I thought of fixing it myself, since i want to save some money, instead of buying a new one. The problems were the next; Battery would only last for 2-3 hours, Audio jac . . .
