Mon problème

The problem? Old age. After ~6 years of use my iPod Touch 1st gen's battery finally stopped holding a charge. So, I decided that spending $10 for a chance to give it new life was worth it.

Ma solution

Opening up the ipod and taking it apart was much easier than I initially anticipated. The little plastic wedge t . . .

Mon problème

The battery would no longer hold a charge and needed replacement.

Ma solution

I followed the directions to the letter and had no problems. Good eyesight was a must as the soldering is very detailed. Being older I had to use a lighted magnifying glass several times to see exactly what I was doing with the solde . . .

Ipod would not turn on

Ma solution

Repair went good

Mon conseil

After the battery was removed i was able to unsolder and re-solder with out removing any other parts. If you do not have a desoldering tool you could also just splice the wires with solder and use heat shrink tubing.

Mon problème

Battery in my Gen 1 iPod was exhausted. Replaced battery. Did not want to finance the educations of Steve Jobs's grandchildren with the purchase of a new iPod Gen 5.

Ma solution

The repair was successful, but I was not prepared for the miniaturization of the board and the solder points -- the photos made things . . .

Mon problème

The battery had been failing for some time, getting weaker every day at the end.

Ma solution

Not much to tell. I followed iFixit's guide for replacing the battery in a 1st gen iPod Touch. Each step went just as the Guide stated. And I succeeded!

Mon conseil

Just follow the Guide. This is my third use of iFixit's guides for d . . .

Mon problème

Battery was complete dead, so, replacing the battery was the cheapest way to go.

Ma solution

The repair went very well and directions were easy to understand and follow.

Mon conseil

Have patience and don't be in a hurry.

Mon problème

When the Touch was placed on the charger, the display indicated a red band at the base of the batter icon, and an indication of <20% of charge. After one hour of "charging", the red band had NOT moved. Usually one would expect that the red band would migrate to a green band that expands to full ba . . .

Mon problème

My son has had his iPod touch for about 2 or more years and the battery was at a point that the unit would not hold a charge for very long. He uses this thing continuously and it is important to him. I had seen on iFixit that you had a replacement battery and the tools/instructions on how to do it . . .

I repaired my old ipod for my son to play with, it was on the bottom of a drawer and now again in use.

Ma solution

Old battery wouldn't hold a good charge

Ma solution

"Very Difficult" getting the Touch apart, as your guide warns. The repair did go OK though, but it now seems my WiFi reception isn't as strong?

Mon conseil

Buy a new iPod Touch...
