G5 iMac blank screen, no chime, what next?

Hi,

My old G5 iMac packed up recently. I did some self diagnosis based on the LED's, 1 and 2 were lit. I then checked the board visually for bad caps and found 6 that were bulging. I don't have the skills to replace these but found a local guy to do it for me, so I ordered some caps, took the board out and got him to do it.

I put it all back together and it's the same. LED's 1 and 2 come on, but not 3. The fans spin and even the HD can be heard spinning, but there is no startup chime and the screen remains blank. So, it's either something else completely, or the repair is not good, but it looks fine.

Does the fact that LED's 1 and 2 light up indicate that the PSU is fine? If so, what else can I check next?

I have a video adapter, the one with the component and s-video out. If I plug that in, without connecting to a screen, does it bypass the LCD? Or would I have to connect it to a screen, ie does the mac check for a handshake?

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

I have just connected the iMac to a tv using the video adapter and a yellow component cable (after finally finding one). Nothing.

Also, the iMac will not do a hard shutdown. I have to remove the power cable. I guess it has to start up to be able to shut down huh?
