iPhones 4S/No Service after battery replaced

I replaced the battery in my iPhone 4s (also unplugged the antenna when I did this), after replacing and reconnecting I plugged it back into iTunes and updated to 6.0.1 (At which point it said there are Carrier Update Settings for my iPhone, I clicked OK) and now I have lost reception completely and just says "No Service" in the top left corner.. My wifi works fine, Bluetooth works fine, everything seems to be OK besides my network reception. I have checked everything... took the phone apart again and checked the antenna connection, battery connection, checked the ground clip for the back panel, everything I had touched when replacing the battery. I also noticed that when I try a "field test" ( Dial *3001#12345#* ) it proceeds to the Field Test Mode at which point it just sits there with "Connecting..." in the bottom left corner and it WILL NOT connect no matter how long I let it sit there and do it's thing. I tried it with my old Iphone 4 and it gives me a readout even without a sim card.. I tried the 4S without a sim card and it still does the same thing, "Connecting...". I have since tried going to "Reset Network Settings" and even going as far as completely re-installing 6.0.1 in DFU mode several times, both without any success. Even tried with 3G On/Off, and turned Carrier Selection to Manual, no dice..

P.S. - I have also checked the "Blue Inductor Coil" and it appears to be fine as well. And I know the SIM is OK because I tried it in two different iPhones and it worked.

Any help would be appreciated... I'm going to order a new Dock Connector/Loudspeaker/Antenna cable and try it in the meantime..

Modem Firmware: 3.0.04

Firmware: 6.0.1 (10A523)

Hi Anthony,

Did you ever work out how to fix your no service problem?

I'm experiencing the exact same problem you have described above and wondered if you worked it out?

par

No I have not repaired this phone. It now sits in the cupboard as a part donor for my other iPhone 4S.

par

Have you reset the date on the 4s. It has probably set the date for 1972. If not then reset the date, lock in the date, remove the sim, reinsert the sim and it should work.

par

Wicked really thought i broke it thanks

thanks am happy for the answer may Allah reward u

Or Problem of Battery itself. Change the battery with Original battery .

par

I've tried everything mentioned.. The ground clip is fine. The date and time was fine so I set the date and time so it was not correct, reset the phone, set date and time again and reset again. Still doesn't work. Reset Network Settings without any improvement. I have noticed every once in a while that the phone asks me to activate it when I restart it sometimes as if it has never been used. Original battery is in the phone as well.. I'm confused as to why it isn't working

par

Had you restore it ?

par

The date and time thing worked with me. Good luck!!

par

Simran you are a genius!!! Changing date and time and powering on and off worked!! Thank you, Em x

have you tried set correct date and time, then turn on airplane mode in settings then go to GENERAL THEN SCROLL TO RESET AND RESET NETWORK SETTINGS, WAIT FOR PHONE TO DO ITS RESET, THEN GO TO SETTINGS AND TURN AIRPLANE MODE ON AND THEN OFF AGAIN and watchfor search to find network. This has worked for me before. I would double check aenna grounding has been put back correctly under top screw of battery terminal.

good luck bob

Absolutely brilliant. Just changed the battery and couldn't see how I would have damaged any part of the phone when all it needed was the date/time /year changing. Thank you for your spot advice Simran.

Cheers

The problem is that you don't clean the pressure contact which creates wireless interference. You can see the step 5 on the iPhone 4S battery replacement page

I have used a "q-tip" and dipped it in rubbing alcohol and cleaned the antenna contact, battery contacts, and the ground clip without any improvements

When you take out the battery their is a little clip that goes under the top screw of the battery ribbon. It's some antenna ground. And we'll your in their check and clean the antenna connector.

That is the wrong way to solve the problem, do as Thibaharan said and connect it to iTunes.

par

I've completely wiped the phone and re-installed iOS several times over without any gains. Stated earlier I restored it in DFU mode

par

If nothing work then you have to dismantle the logic board and put back properly .

Maybe try this,

First, before you plug it into itunes or do anything go into your itunes account, go to the Preferences in ITUNES (it is located under the top lefthand corner) of the page. Go into your backup history, you will see a listing of every the date & time of the back up & restore attempts. DELETE all of them, rest your sync history.

Clearing out all of the previous back ups might help you, it might allow you to back up and restore the phone from itunes instead of a back up of the phones settings. Then try the clock and date change, turn off/on and see where your at.

Also, are you positive your battery is the correct battery for that phone?

Also charge the phone up to 100% before doing anything.

I would almost say that you have something somewhere either unplugged but it looks like it is plugged up. Disconnect all the connectors and make sure they are plugged in fully, one might have been bumped just a little lose. Check the OTHER END of the antenna

Error (1) is baseband, only thing you can try is reflow the motherboard. (In the oven for 2-3 mins at 180 degrees C). Good luck!

No service or searching solution for when you replaced or reconnect the battery!

Reason is automatically set default time and date so screen is showing like no service or searching.

That's not an issue we have lot of ways just follow this any one method

1- Settings privacy location ON

2- connect to iTunes for two minutes

3- connect to wifi

No need to restore or format the phones.

Hope your problem will get solved more details contact me on what's app

The time and date are set to a previous year, it just confuses the phone, once you correct the time and date it works perfectly fine.

None of these worked for me. I reopened the phone and ensured the battery and antenna were properly placed, the cover degreased, the shield properly placed, etc. I had fixed the date/time, reset the network settings, restored iPhone from iTunes, left it connected to iTunes, tried toggling via WiFi and airplane mode. NO DICE.

HERE IS WHAT WORKED:

I chatted online with my carrier (AT&T). They had me read a couple of settings from my phone and sent a reset signal. BAM! Service.

If all else fails, but before fooling with your mother/logic board, contact your carrier.

My phone was stuck in "searching" after replacing my iPhone 4s battery so I attempted to restore it on itunes but now my phone is stuck in recovery mode and won't restore! Does anyone have any idea why this is? It seems to be a hardware issue seeing as it won't restore. Any/all advice would be much appreciated

I had the same issue with it showing Searching. The funny thing was that I could call and receive texts. Had to change my phone Time manually in General settings as suggested and leave the screen. Later I changed it back to Auto Set.

Hi guys

Looking at this lengthy forum I've too had this problem after replacing with a new battery for my 4s!

I've tried everything even linking it to iTunes but no joy. I've been almost 5 days without calling signal only wifi.

I've been told by my network carrier that a faulty sim could be to be blamed! I'm going to try this otherwise IT will be a complete reset back to when I bought it again.

I think Apple must do something which must link up when things are changed etc. As now my silent switch is not working..... Spooky!!

I have the same problem as Anthony. Wi Fi and everyting else but Carrier fine. Date toggled and now correct. With No Service showing, turn Auto off in settings for carrier selection and manually select a carrier. Indicator changes to Searching and a gray spinning beach ball appears to the right of the carrier selected. Indicator remains Searching until a Blue check mark appears beside the carrier selected. Simultaneous with the check mark, No Service reappears along with an error message that the selected cellular network is no longer available.

I get the same kind of error when I try using an old SIM card from another company that was replaced with a new smaller SIM when I upgraded my phone. In this case, I know that the SIM is turned off. So that is a clue about where the trouble lays. Its like the phone company itself is blocking the SIM. But with the ATT SIM that is giving me the No Service problem, I have spent hours online with ATT checking to make sure that the SIM is good by them.

I hope a fe more clues may help unravel this.

I have had a complete nightmare with this. Initially just the "searching" problem. So I tried updating the time countless times. Tried the flight mode thing on and off. Tried resetting the network. All multiple times. Nothing worked. Then went to iTunes tried to do an update but it wouldn't work due to some error. And my only option then was to restore to factory settings which also won't work. I can't believe that just changing the battery myself has led to this. Really frustrating. And I'm now left with all my data lost and having to buy a new phone.

You may be helped by going to a shop that changes iPhone batteries, they usually know exactly how to do this. If he opens your iPhone and take the battery out for a few seconds, he will check the wires and will do the right thing.

I had this done by someone here in Spain where we live, he did a good job changing the battery.

I hope this answer helps you, it´s cheaper to go to a small shop (no apple store, just mobile phones store who does batteries), than buy another phone.

Good luck, and please post if it helps you.

Thanks very much for your response. Unfortunately I'm living in a small village in Austria for the next few months so repair shops are limited and at least a train ride away. I purchased another phone on Ebay - not too expensive so just hope that works out! I don't think I'll ever try to repair anything to do with my iPhone again in future - will always pay for it to be repaired. It is not as straightforward as it should be. I thought changing a battery would be child's play. Thanks again for your response.
