Won't Power Up Hot Motherboard Near Battery

I have a iBook A1134 that will not power up at all. Power adapter shows amber when plugged in and turns green when battery is charged, but motherboard is very hot to the touch right where the battery connects to the motherboard. Tried shift, ctrl, option, power with no results

If you get no activity when pushing the power switch button then you top case might be in trouble. Try to power your iBook directly from the logic board. To do it, disconnect the AC adapter, remove the battery, remove the top case, carefully disconnect the power switch connector (blue & white cables) from the socket then plug the ac adapter and briefly short the two small pins inside the power switch socket with a small jeweler flat screwdriver. That should power on the logic board and the iBook should boot the system.

BTW, it's normal that the logic board is getting hot when charging the battery. Do you use the 65 watts AC adapter ?

Thanks for your advise. I tried it and still got nothing. There is no sign of life at all except that the power adapter lights up when plugged in and turns green when the battery is charged

Steven, did you try to boot the iBook bridging the socket pins when:

1- the AC adapter only is connected.

2- when only a charged battery is connected.

If you don't get activity with this method then the logic board could be faulty. For me it's easy to troubleshoot I have many known working parts so I would try another DC in board but it's only a guess... Make sure everything but the DC in board is disconnected from the logic board when bridging the socket pins (optical drive, modem, airport/bluethoot card) only keep the video and inverter cables connected. If you still can't power up the logic board then it's certainly faulty.

You may be feeling the heat sink. Try starting up from an installation CD. Insert the disk and hold the "C" key down when hitting the start button. Do you get any sounds at all when trying to start? Also you can reset the PMU, here's how:http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1431

Thank you both for your suggestions. I will try them tommorow. I understand the logic board getting hot as normal, but this seems way too hot. It actually burned my finger like touching a hot fry pan.

Yes it is a 65 watt AC adapter
