Can you give us some info on your internal HD setup. Sounds like the boot & OS files can't be read. That would imply the boot HD is having problems.

It is 160GB used hard drive from a dell serve station, I installed the OS 10.5 and update to 10.5.8

So you only have one drive in the system correct? 160GB you salvaged from your Dell System.

Are you swapping two HD disks in & out? and only having problems with this one (Dell System HD) Vs the original HD the system came with?

Are you able to boot up with the Install CD/DVD that came with your system or Leopard DVD that used to install the OS on to your HD (Apple logo'ed) without any problems?

If you can boot up with either the install/System CD/DVD's without a problem, then your HD has problems and you'll need to repair the disk.

As Mayer stated you'll need to run Disk Utility from the install or bootable CD/DVD. You may also need to reformat the HD (make sure you have a backup of any important data)

Also check your SATA I/O speed on the HD you'll need to set it for SATA-II if its rated for SATA-III. Check your HD or the vendors web site for the model of HD you have. Often a jumper is needed.

Are you physically taking the drive in and out trying to start your system (power button) and after a few tries it will start with it removed.

just to be clear here when HD is installed you can't get it to start at all (when hitting the power button) is that correct? If you have it removed the HD sometimes the display with show a blinking ? on a folder icon, otherwise you don't get any image on the display at all, is that correct?

If so, you're telling us you have a different problem than the HD that first needs to be fixed first here.

If I under stand what you are trying to tell us correctly, it sounds like the power supply is not working. Remember, when you have the HD installed the drive needs to start up which puts a lot of power, so getting the system to even kick on for a second or two would be harder with it installed if the power supply can't fully power the system.

At this point I think your better off bringing your system into an Apple Store or an Apple authorized service center to get your system repaired.

without HD, I power on the computer, every time the power lit up and hear the chime sound but two times no display, tree times have, I do think the PS is ok.

Thanks,

Do you have a second HD which you know works to put in? Maybe the Dell HD is bad. If your sure the PSU is OK.

I did all test which you and Mayer tell me to do, but the problem still not fix .

But due to lot of time try boot the computer I find out that:

1) if you push the power button then the power light lit up, after 4 seconds, hear the chime sound, after 5 seconds the DVD drive lit up, few seconds the DVD light off, at same time the mouse lit up , after 5 seconds the display show Apple logo with a spinning gear and computer book up.

2) If you push the power button then the power light lit up, after 4 seconds, hear the chime sound, after 5 seconds the DVD drive lit up ,when the DVD drive lit up only 2 seconds the mouse also lit up, at this moment the DVD drive and mouse both lit up, after 4 seconds the DVD light off, but mouse stay on, then display show nothing computer never boot up. My English is not good hope you can understand, I want to know which device control all these light and you may find some problem. Thank you.

Make sure you have a backup of your hard drive, either externally or on a second internal hard drive.

Sounds like a corrupted system folder. Start up from you system installation disk. Insert the disk and hold down the "C" key till the Apple appears. Go to the second screen pull down menu. Go to Utilities > Disk Utilities, Select your drive in the left hand column and run disk repair on the drive till it runs clear. Now repair the permissions. Reboot from the hard drive, it should now work for you.

There are diagnostic lights n the logic board to help diagnose your problems. The empty folder means your machine isn't finding a valid operating system. Have you added any RAM? If so remove it and take it back to the original configuration. Your power supply may also be weak and failing with multiple restarts.
