water flooding and F11 error

We have a Kenmore He3t washer that is 10 years old. Today I came home to find the F11 code and water all over the floor. I have noticed that the spin cycle has gotten dramatically louder recently, as if the tub was off-balanced.

From reading across the web, it sounds like the F11 error is often caused by a wiring disconnect; could the increased vibration from the spin cycle cause a disconnect?

I have not yet opened the machine up, but it sounds like there are two springs that hold the tub in place, and that these can stretch with age. It sounds like I might want to replace these springs. I think I have read that there are fittings for 4 springs. Is this true, and if so would the spin cycle be more balanced if I installed the 2 extra springs?

Is the water on the floor related to the F11 error code?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Update

I checked the connections, and one of the connectors at the MCU from the CCU was just slightly loose. Pushing in on the connector solved the "F11" problem, and the machine ran through a Drain & Spin cycle.

What do I do from here to prevent a recurrence? I assume the vibration from the tub worked the connector loose. Do the two springs and four shock absorbers that support the tub age, like automotive counter-parts? After 10 years of almost daily use, I am tempted to order new springs and shocks for the washer, to see if I can dampen the vibrations. Or is there a test for function?

Ian, F/11 error is a Serial Communication Error

Communication between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU) cannot be sent correctly.

Potential Causes

• Check Wire Harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control

Unit (CCU)

• Check the Drive system for any worn or failed components

• Check MCU

• Check CCU

• Check Motor

• Check Wire Harness

Your tub should actually have 4 shock absorbers that hold it in places. It is easily possible that those, or at least one has either failed or is dislodged. None of this should cause your washer to leak. Check the water supply lines as well as the the drain. There is a drain filter and drain lines, those may be leaking. Get the service manual from here if you need it. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. Other than loose wires at the MCU and CCU, how can I tell if they are working correctly?

Thank you for accepting my answer. There really is no way to check unless we have the proper schematic for the signals passing through.
