Logic board with vertical socket

I'm trying to replace a logic board on MB Core 2 Duo (non-ES). Some of the boards I came across specify they are "with vertical socket type" or "vertical (snap-on) slots for heatsink." How can I check compatibility with the MacBook I have?

- Thanks

Sorry for the massive delay in responding!

The Core Duo MacBooks randomly had 2 different connector types for the heat sinks. You can see pictures of the 2 different connectors here. I suspect that this distinction is what is described by "vertical socket type" or "vertical (snap-on) slots for heatsink."

Regardless, if you order a Core 2 Duo logic board, all Late 2006 and Mid 2007 version boards should have the same connectors. The Santa Rosa versions and Penryn versions change most of the connectors, and are therefore incompatible with Core Duo and Core 2 Duo (Late 2006 and Mid 2007) machines.

Because so many different companies call these parts so many different things, here are the things you would need to make sure are on the board you order:

  1. JST connectors for the heat sink (seen on the left side of the comparison picture here)
  2. a non-ES battery connector (2 continuous rows of pins on the board, explained here)
  3. Standard "4-wall" connectors for speaker connectors (seen above the right corner of the left RAM slot on this product, as opposed to the JST connectors portrayed in the same place on this product)

Sorry this is so confusing! Apple didn't exactly make these boards cut-and-dry.

Good luck!

Wait for Ben Eisenman to sign on. He works with iFixit. He's the very best parts man I've ever met.
