Why do I have a fault my on 23" cinema HD display?

Apple Cinema HD Display 23" Aluminum

My 23" cinema HD display (aluminium) has developed vertical stripes and a bleaching out effect when I open windows. The severity of the effect varies. You can see from the linked image that the stripes follow bright patches on the open windows and move when I move the windows. I have plugged the display into another Mac and the issue was still evident, so I recon it is the display and not the video card. I was hoping that somebody could suggest what is causing the problem and also point me to a service manual for this display? (I can only find the manual for the 23" acrylic version?)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Joe

Thank you. I will investigate further with your information. From what I have read so far, the issues you mention normal manifest themselves in stripes that are independent of the windows or images on the screen and sometimes disappear with pressure applied at the edges of the screen. My stripes move around when I move windows around the screen. Often, my screen is "very well behaved" and the image is perfect, especially when I first turn it on so I am hoping it is not the LED panel itself.

I am guessing that these screens are very durable because there appears to be precious little information about fault diagnosis and repair on the internet?

Thanks again.

Yes, most commonly, but there is always the possibility that your TAB error is just starting. You do want to do your basic checks as well. nake sure that your cables are properly seated etc. Also, if you can, check with an external display. If those stripes are on the external display, you are running into trouble with your video card. I do hope it is not the LCD panel due to cost alone. Thank you for accepting my answer.

Joe, looks like you are in need of a new panel. Most commonly the line defect is the result of a defective TCP (Tape Carrier Package), or TAB (Tape Automated bonding) as it is more commonly. Hope this helps, good luck.
