Is it possible to install a 160gb thick harddisk in 7g iPod?

Recently my ipod classic 160gb HDD died.

I obtained a new hdd, but made the mistake that I ordered a 160gb 'thick' HDD for a 6g ipod, and I have a 160gb 7g 'thin' Ipod classic.

When I successfully disassembled (great manual) my ipod I noticed that the drive was to thick. Since the coust of a new HDD is higher than a rear cover + cable I have the following question:

  1. Does the rear panel of a 160gb 6g 'thick' ipod fit onto the metal framework and front panel of a 7g ipod? (ie in the position of the clips)
  2. Is the connection of the hard drive cable to the motherboard of the 6g and 7g the same?

Many thanks in advance!

Laurens

from what I remember is that yes you can put in the HD but you need to replace the rear casing as well.

EDIT:

Actually it all depends on the connector for the Hard drive. I just remembered that the thick 160gbs had a small connector compared to the big connector on most classic hard drives. If you have the cable for the small connector to the logic board then yes it will work otherwise, you need to find the cable or get a new hard drive.

The old parts are the apple no 821-0386-03 cable and the 'thin' rear panel with ifixit item no IF130-002

The intended new parts are the 821-0546-a cable and the thick rear panel no IF130-014-1 (ifixit part number number)
