Crushed phone works but not recharging

My iPhone 4s got run over by 2 vehicles yesterday. While the front glass is fried, the LCD and back glass is fine and all the radios/sensors seem to be operational. I haven't tested the front-facing camera yet, but that'll come later. My question relates to the battery/charging circuitry. Aside from its appearance, the only thing wrong with the phone is that it won't recharge. It charged up to 41% from 2% overnight, but since then it doesn't want to charge and now I can't even get the phone past the "charge me if you want to use me" screen. I haven't yet dissembled the phone, so I'll have a better idea when I actually see the condition of things under the screen. Clearly the weight of those vehicles transmitted some force beyond the front glass, but not enough to break the LCD. Is it likely that the crushing force compromised the battery? In other words, should I replace the battery to see if it will recharge or should I check other components first?

Jack Langowski, go ahead and definitely get one. After that, you will need to disassemble your phone and take a good look at all the components. I would furthermore suggest not to use the phone until you have it evaluated. It is possible that you may cause further damage by shortening out some of the components if they are lose or if there are tears in any of the cables.
