Only boots with battery

Stop me if you have heard this one before.

I have three mac pro's that run fine, everything seems to work once the machine is up but all three will only power on if and when the battery is installed.

The charger light is green, amber if the battery need charging.

If I try to start with just the mags it just sits there but as soon as I put in the battery it will power on without touching the power button.

If the battery is in first and then I connect the mags it will start normally.

Any idea's?

Thank you Dan, I'll give it a look.

Mayer I only use 85 watt power adapters for the macbook pro's but I did double check by using a different one

Options

There is a set of power transistors which control the flow of power from either the power connection or the battery as well as the charging of the battery. The control logic and/or the power transistors (FETs) have been damaged.

Depending on the MBP model you can find part of the circuit on the, Left I/O Board, DC inboard or its all on the main logic board.

In this model you'll find part of the circuit on the Left I/O Board iFixIt guide and the controlling logic on the main logic board.

Try using an 85 watt power adapter.
