How to install LVDS connector in Logic board?

it is fustrating as I have spent for a new LCD panel to know later that it is the connector itself in the logic board that has the problem all this time. I tried to clean it and since it is really small and has got 30 pins I guess, it is very hard to see. Anyway while I tried to put some force on it while LDVS cable is connected etc it finally came to pieces and now the connector is gone fron the logic board. I thought and still think I have to change the logic board butwhen I found 30 pins connector in ebay and other online stores my hopes are high. Is this is the correct part and how to fix? Anybody tried this method before? Please help me and confirm thepart I saw os the correct one. Thanks

anr193, first thing that you have to do is to let us know exactly which computer you have. Please post the last three digits of your computer or at least the numbers of your logic board. Second, the connector is of course soldered to the board. Unless you have experience with soldering very small pieces to a logic board, I would suggest you find someone that can do it. Yes, the connectors are available, and are not even expensive, but this work is not easily done. The connector is a I-pex Connector 20474-030e-11 and is available at places like this and others. Hope this helps, good luck.

@Nathan Reeves: the backlight fuse should be the brown IC with a white P on it.

You need a hot air station to remove the faulty I-pex connector but you can't use the hot air station to install the new connector (connector plastic part would melt). It must be installed with a solder iron and only can be done by a skilled tech.

If you do not know how to solder, I urge you to obtain a few old circuit boards of any kind and practice how to solder the surface mounted devices components. This is not a skill that can be taught by theory alone. Take a look at a few YouTube videos like this one to get a good understanding of what is involved.

I agree with oldturkey03, it take practice to do such a delicate job. It's not only to solder the connector in place but the work surface (pads) must be prepared adequately before the connector is soldered on the pads. Amount of solder paste applied to the pads, use of liquid flux, use of the right solder iron tip, use of a microscope are all important factors to succeed in this kind of work. Better buy the connector and find a tech to install it.

Hot air station can also be used to install the new connector. That is basically how it was installed in the factory, thus connectors like this are heat resistant. Too much heat will still destroy them. In practice pre-heater is needed in addition of hot air station for properly reworking such connector. Pre-heater allows lower temperatures to be used in hot air station.
