Display assembly from early 2008 MacBook Pro Vs. June 2007 MacBook Pro

Hi All,

I've searched the guides but I haven't seen an answer to this particular question. I have a Macbook Pro from June 2007 that had a logic board failure. The LCD display is the glossy version and is still in great shape. I purchased an early 2008 Macbook Pro on Ebay that has the matte display. Would there be a problem with taking the display from the 2007 model and putting it on the 2008? Everything seems to be identical on the inside. I just wanted to see if there may be something that can't be seen that could cause a problem.

Thanks in advance!

Most people would rather have the matte display as it has less glare when working outside or overly lit work areas. Are you sure you want the Glossy display instead if the matte is unblemished and working?

Good question Dan. I prefer the glossy display over the matte. I understand that there is less glare, but the glossy display just seems a lot sharper and than the matte version. I guess I'm one of the few that prefer these. Plus the back of the glossy display is in perfect condition where as the one that came with this one has lots of dents and scratches.

Can you give us the last three digits of the serial numbers of both systems so we can make sure they are compatible.

unfortunately, the LVDS cables are slightly different on the two displays, as well as the iSight controller board, and the iSight camera. The hinge cover is also slightly different because the SR/07 model uses 3 antenna for the airport, but the 08 uses only 2, but thats not a functional problem that will stop it being interchangeable. i wouldn't swap them between the two without swapping the non-interchangeable parts incase you blow something.

Thanks Jon, I did try to swap these out before I got your response. It's true that the airport cables didn't match up but as you said this had no effect on functionality. The LVDS and iSight cables fit, and everything worked fine. That is until I tried to close the lid. This is when I noticed the difference. There was a huge gap in between the top and bottom casing. So the biggest problem turned out to be the hinges. So I swapped them out again not wanting to see if there were any other adverse effects. Thanks for the info!
