Frankensteined iPhone 2G generates flipped mirror image

I have an 8 GB 2G iPhone with either cracked glass or a cracked digitizer. It did not acknowledge any tactile input.

I have a 16 GB 2G iPhone which only generated a dark Apple logo upon resetting (no backlight), and that reaction was only intermittent. I was not able to test the glass or digitizer.

I swapped the logic board and battery bundle from each. I fiddled around. Got a beeping reaction when I plugged in the charger, but was not able to generate and video output.

I reseated those four cables underneath, and then I got this image (the picture's only cropped, not retouched or altered):

Block Image

The resulting iPhone was only responsive to the sleep/wake button.

I assumed the swap was possible in the first place. I just popped the antenna cover, back case, and logic board & battery bundle, and then swapped. I'd love to know what may have gone wrong.

My wife's Gen 1 (2.5G) iPhone spontaneously developed the exact same problem. She'd turned the phone off one evening. When she turned it back on the next morning, everything was mirror-imaged. Like in this YouTube video.

It was jailbroken, in order to unlock it for use on T-Mobile, but had been working fine this way for months beforehand.

I did several complete DFU restores, but problem persists!

I couldn't find much info on this particular problem. This phone had never been taken apart before, but I finally wondered if it might, in fact, be a hardware issue. I've disassembled it, and re-seated all the connectors. I also desoldered the battery, and let the phone sit overnight before reconnecting. But still no dice!

I'm having the same problem. Mirrored screen! Guys at Apple store said the phone was Fiznuckled.

Well of course the geniuses at the bar said that. They don't support fixing these things yourself!

i've tried to goolge about this problem - but the "mirrored" screen protectors are really annoying.

so i googled in german and found something.

to make it short - the problem was alike, he disassembled it again, "removed" the battery (to cut all the power), resoldered the battery and reassembled the iPhone again - after that it worked normally.

the unresponsive screen could also be a problem related to the whole power issue, but it could also be a defective digitizer - or - think about it - you have still to do it "normal" not mirrored

Could also just be a loose connection underneath the logic board. I found reconnecting the ribbon cable properly underneath the board to be very difficult and time consuming. At one point my screen had flipped itself, but I found through some perseverance and care that nothing too major had to be modified in order to get it working properly.

This might be your problem; might not. Just my $0.02.

You may try seating the ribbon cable perfectly, ensuring that the other connections are laying below the logic board/comm board area in the right spots, and screwing the logic/conn board in. I've found this to be an extremely reliable way of getting all the connections together properly. I've been through several stages of connectivity with the blasted logic board and this method is really the only reliable one that I've found.
