Thanks, just used the guide you linked to repair my 27" display. Very similar procedure.

this guide is grand- however - there are more screws to remove to lift up the LED than presented in the guide for the 24 - the guide for the 24 shows three screws per left and right - for the 27 there are 4 screws top and 4 epr side all torx10 AND there are 4 bottom screws, philips 1. Hope that helps!

this vid shows some of these points https://youtu.be/fidZNrjHwfU?si=ckNDMMzA... - good tips in this vid, too - it's for a thunderbolt version rather than the usb one, but the screw set up is the same on the 27 it seems

also - i did not have to take the screen right off to do the cable swap - i left the ground wire and just propped the screen.

quick note: taking the glass off is entirely cool - it DOES come right up and off putting suction cups diagonally (upper right lower left) - it is just magnets holding the glass onto the frame. like wow in terms of design. i say this as i thought it would be a real challenge to fiddle off - not at all.

Finally - for the LED when putting back the glass - it's great to have a little lens blower bulb or similar to blow off any dust (there will be dust) - and apple recommends anti static lint free gloves - they're very helpful for dusting away any last bits.

also - used ifixit kit for first time and really enjoyed using the reverse tweezers to position the wee screws going back in. just saying - thank you ifixit for walking the talk so generously.

Josian, did that work for you? Changing 922-8679 out with a 922-9941 cable? I found one in eBay and plugs look similar.

Did you ever replace a 24" Apple led all-in-one cable with the 27" led all in one cable? Basically going from a 922-8679 to a 922-9941? I found this cable and it looks identical to the 24" models cable. Here is the cable I want to buy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/121875959109

Just saw on ifixit that you said it was possible but wanted to ask.

Thanks

There are 2 versions of the 27" display: LED Cinema Display and Thunderbolt Display

(24" and 27") LED Cinema Display uses separate USB and Mini DisplayPort

27" Thunderbolt Display uses one Thunderbolt connector

Cables are not interchangeable between the Thunderbolt model

Alexy is correct however if referring strictly to LED Cinema Displays (not thunderbolt) then yes you can use the 27" all-in-one cable (922-9362) in place of the the 24" cable (922-8679). I had an issue with my 24" and tried the video portion of my 27" cable to drive video and it worked. The 3 hole mount is different for each display but 1 or 2 screws may fit. 922-9941 is a thunderbolt display part number and not compatible with LED Cinema Displays.

was this repair done with the 27 inch cable? im about to order one...

par

update update update. i just fixed my all in one cable for my 24 inch cinema led by using the 27 inch all in one cable like confirmed above it does work however the 3 hole mount is different, this can be easily resolved by seperating the 3 hole ring from the cable (its just a ring on the aio cable held by cheap glue) i switched the 3 hole ring with the one from my 24 inch for a nice flush install and now my display is back up and running wooooohooooooo

Hello,

I just bought a "Apple Thunderbolt Cable 27" Cinema Display" to a friend of mine for almost nothing knowing of course that the cable behind was cut of because the dog eat it.. (that's what he said..) Anyway I thought it would be very easy to change the cable but no way..

I just found a cable on eBay and did order it right away, waiting to be here I was wondering if someone knew the septs to take to do so...

Here is some pictures for you all to know what I'm talking about.

Thanks to you all,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I might face the same issue, but time has gone by 3 years, wondering how you end up with your "Apple 27 thunderbolt display"?

Thanks,

Hao

Question. Can I remove the all in one cable from a 27inch LED cinema display ( usb, mini display port, mag safe laptop charging ) and replace just the mini display port cable ( thunderbolt cable ) with a male to male mini DP cable?

The aim is to get the monitor working as a monitor. I can live without the USB hub and the mag safe charging. Much thanks.
