Logic Board Connector at J9630 cracked off: Is the project toast?

As I tremblingly lifted the tiny connector at J9630 up out of its tiny enclosure, the enclosure cracked in half and then came fully off the logic board.

I assume it's time (after a dirge) to abandon the logic board repair, rescue the hard drive, and send the corpse to the recycling service?

Drat! It was going so well!! -- And thanks, ifixit, for inspiring me to try!!

Ike

Ike Burke, giving up so soon? :-) right now you do not have anything to lose. Find a new connector and start soldering:-)

Many thanks, fellers. My initial post was poor. I failed to note that I was fixin' to attempt a reflow of the logic boad chips, precisely to obviate buying and installing a new logic board; and I didn't note more helpfully that this was the white connector just to the right of the left-hand fan.

What I really meant to ask was What does the connector I ruined DO, and is there ANY chance the machine could limp along with its functio(s) lost to the rest of the circuitry? A completely foolish hope, I now assume -- nothing within that miniaturized wonderland being inessential?

Even a professional solder-job (followed by an iffy reflow and reassembly by ham-fingered me) would likely cost more than a 2007 machine might then be worth.

So now: is there a drive enclosure that will let me use the machine's hard drive once I've extracted it?

Thank you again!

Ike

What are the last three digits of the computers serial number? This will help us to properly identify your computer, and may be even find the schematic for it. That way we can help you even further:-) I would also suggest that you post an image of the connector as well as the location of it on the board.

You might be able to find a small electronics or computer repair service that could reattach ( or solder directly) the connection. Some things are best left to professionals or those with lots of experience… soldering components on logic boards would be at the top of a list of those things.

It is possible to replace an entire logic board (but thats an advanced DIY)…

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.
