Grey spots on documents

Big rectangular gray spots are beginning to appear on some of my documents, mostly on quick view, preview and games. They go away for a while after I reboot, but eventually reappear.

Please supply the last four digits of your serial number so we can correctly identify your system.

My computer is a 24" iMac, the last 4 digits of my serial number is 8250. These spots only appear on some documents, in varying amounts and in different places from time to time, and not at all on the desktop. There are no bad pixels on the display.

Your serial number doesn't come up with a given model. check it again from the About this Mac > more info

That's where I got it. (Serial Number (system): W8907098250)

The spots are on the screen, but only in the document or quick view windows, mostly bitmap images.

The spots are not on the images when I print them.

These spots are on only visible on the iMac's screen Vs an external monitor correct? If that is there case the screen is going on you. If the external display is also showing them then the GPU is failing.

Update

When you see these spots show up on the document you mean the printer's output (paper) not the displays image of what you are working on correct?

Did you try cleaning the printer?

The grey spots are likely the graphics card starting to fail. To make sure you do need to try an external monitor. If they are present on the external display then its a sure thing.
