Reuse a MacBook Air SSD in Mac Pro

So, I've been wanting to throw an SSD in my 2008 Mac Pro for a while, and I just remembered that I had a 64GB SSD from my 2012 MBA sitting around (replaced that drive with an OWC upgrade).

Anyways, I began to wonder if I could use the SSD as a boot drive for my Mac Pro- I've even considered building/coding a homebrew Fusion Drive to see how that works. I found an adapter on eBay that seemed like it should do the trick, so I ordered it. Looks just like this:

Well, oddly enough, I've got no dice, either plugged into my Mac Pro, or an external SATA connector.

Unfortunately, I can't find my T5 driver so I haven't tested the old SSD in my MacBook Air from which it came (yeah, I still have to test it for the failure thing that Apple documented). As such, it is possible the SSD itself is bad.

However, are there any other things I'm missing with trying to use this adapter? Do I need any other form of power or anything? I can't seem to find many specifications online anywhere, so I've come here for some potential answers.

SATA speed. Your example SSD looks like it is a mini SATA (6Gb/s) waaaay to fast for reading writing on your system which is Serial ATA II (3 Gb/s), If it is in fact a good drive there may be a way to manually slow the card down so it works, or, It might work in an external case that has a more robust automagic speed detector.… but I'm just speculating.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

Would this also be why it refuses to mount with an external mount point? It's still too fast?
