After Battery Replacement, its getting REALLY hot

Alright, on this dead Ipod 5th gen device, I replaced the battery and the device booted up just fine. When my father had gotten it, it did get a bit hot after some use, and while charging. However, when booting it up and plugging in the ipod, its getting Extremely hot, almost on the verge of singing/ burning my thumb when using the middle clicker. Im just trying to ask what may be wrong with it, since im pretty sure it never got this hot even while charging, and I can bet this isn't good for the HDD/ mainboard of the device. Is there any way I can alleviate/ fix this?

-Edit: It just black screened while charging it, im keeping it off the charger until I can sort this out.
