LCD Will not go back into place.

I am in the screen repair business and ran into a rather interesting problem.

While replacing the glass on an iPad4, I seem to be unable to get the LCD to fit properly. It almost feels like there is something underneath it causing it to sit uneven.

The battery seems to be puffy and filled with excess air. Any help would be appreciated.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY - THIS IS CRITICAL!

This battery must be replaced!

The battery in any of the retina display iPads is a type referred to as LiPo. This means Lithium Polymer. My understanding is that when a LiPo battery has a cell short circuited, charging problems, or discharge problems, the composition of the battery causes it to begin to create toxic gas inside the battery cells which then swell. At this point, the battery's condition could create a sudden explosion or fire. For more information, see this Wikipedia entry.

Again, this battery must be replaced for safety!

That is exactly what I was afraid of. I had a feeling, but wanted to get confirmation.

Yup, can't tell you how many times I went to put one back together only to find that it's not fitting right. Body looks good, then I examine the battery and see the dreaded puff!
