Lens extends, then retracts and shuts down

Hello,

My Kodak V1253 took a 10 second bath in fresh water, followed by 48 hours in a bowl of rice. I can look at pictures in the memory, but when I try to make a picture by turning the device on with the power button, the optics extend, then retract and the camera shuts down.

I found a video for taking the camera apart, but found nothing unusual inside.

Other sources of information indicate possible contamination of the mechanical parts of the lens assembly so I plan to continue by checking that possibility.

Any guidance in that area or other ideas?

Thanks and best wishes.

Found a video for disassembly of the camera on a German web site. Translation not essential. Discovered I had dirt in the lens assembly and after cleaning, it now extends and retracts properly. Just have to watch the video backward to reassemble the camera.

Possibility the assembly could be cleaned without full disassembly. Also, I suspect this may be a common issue for compact cameras having similar lenses. Got a water resistant Sony for Christmas with all mechanicals inside.
