15" PB Won't run on battery only?

I just bought a new battery from Apple after running the PB on AC only for 2-3 months. The battery was at 30% and reached full charge overnight. The PowerBook works fine while plugged in. Battery charges and it sleeps/wakes normally. As soon as I disconnect the power supply the machine freezes - the screen goes blank and no keyboard response. To get it to boot up I have to remove the battery. If I try to boot it with just the battery the fans run at full speed for about a minute then it powers off.

I have tried the resetting PRAM NVRAM etc

Could the new battery be bad ??

Any suggestions gratefully received!!

A new DC-IN failed to fix the problem.

Download Coconut battery: http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutba...

get the stats on the new battery. Compare the number on the batteries and see if they are the same. Also run Coconut on the old battery. What were the symptoms with the old battery?

I don't still have the old battery - it was down to 1/2 an hour charge before I gave up using it. Coconut battery says current capacity is 4351 of 4400 current charge 83% 3619 of 4351.

When I first connected the new battery the connector light kept going from orange to green ever few minutes so I left it overnight to charge. Maybe the DC in gave up the ghost after that ?

Incidentally this PB arrived with a dead battery 4 years ago when I bought it new and apple replaced it straight away.

Maybe I should try replacing the DC in board for about £60. Its not worth spending £500 on a new Logic board.
