Replacing the graphics card might cause heat issues?

I was reading a guid on changing the graphics card on an 2009 iMac EMC 2374 has an ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB with a Radeon 6970 2GB graphics card.

It sounds great but in the discussion it is mentioned that there is a heat eminence issue that needs to be fixed by thermal compound and fan speed adjustment. However this is not an issue the author brings up but another member that did the switch on a different machine (iMac a 2010 i5 2.8)

Does anyone know if this will also affect the 2009 iMac EMC 2374 that has an ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB?

Hi,

I have put a Radeon 6970 2GB into my 2009 iMac EMC 2374 and have had no issues, the graphics card runs at the correct temperature and the fans run normally.

I hope this helps.
