My MBA got soaked in Tequila

A half bottle of perfectly good tequila leaked all over my perfectly good MacBook Air. Really soaked it (don't ask....)

It would not turn on after the exposure.

I've put the computer in a plastic bag full of rice. Now what do I do?

THANKS!

Its a little early for Cinco de Mayo!

Sadly, the rice trick is more useful for clean water. Juice, soft or alcoholic drinks it will not fully remove the spillage. This is when you need to open the system up and manually clean everything down. The sooner you do this the better the outcome!

In the mean time put your system in a clean (no rice) bag and place it in your refrigerator to keep it cool (not frozen!) that will slow the effects of the acids & sugars causing corrosion until you have a chance to get the system to someone that can clean it up or you do it your self. Mind you this is a big job and you still have less than a 50% chance of getting it working without needing some parts. Again don't put it off to long even in the refrigerator you are only slowing the corrosion process not stopping it.

OK how do I clean this my self?

First you will need to get the correct tools - IFIXIT Tools and review the IFIXIT guides for your system - MacBook Air 13" Mid 2011 Repair

Next you'll need a good work surface and if you have a lot of static in the air where you live you should get a anti-static mat IFIXIT Anti-Static Mat (I strongly recommend using one).

The supplies you will need is a bottle of distilled water (you can't use tap or spring water as it has junk in it that we don't want) and a good quality Isopropyl alcohol (85% or better), a soft tooth brush, cotton swabs (Q-Tips) and lastly some paper towels.

Follow the guides in taking your system apart and carefully cleaning the surfaces of the electrical parts down with the distilled water with the moistened Q-Tip to dissolve the water soluble stuff still left after the alcohol evaporated off. As needed use the toothbrush to scrub the surface being careful not to pull any of the small components off. Once you feel an area is clean go over it again this time with the Isopropyl alcohol it will remove the solvent based stuff and act as a dryer removing the water that has seeped under the tiny parts. You may find some parts are to far gone to save (i.e. the battery) they will need to be replaced. - Good luck!
