My main screen is freezing and it has somehow enlarged to almost 5 or 6 times it's size. I have turned it completely off and it comes back on looking normal for a second, and then returns to the enlarged state and it is completely frozen.

Try this.
Double tap the screen with three fingers simultaneously and it should go back to normal. Three finger tap is zoom functionality of iPhone 3G-S added feature
Page 189 - Zoom
Turn Zoom on or off:
In Settings, choose General > Accessibility > Zoom and tap the Zoom On/Off switch.

The frozen status was happening to my phone too often. I stopped in Best Buy and asked them but, they had never heard of it. I read your answer and just tried it. I must say it worked!!! I love my iPhone and now I know what to do when it happens again.

Thank you! I was going crazy not able to figure out what was wrong, everything was frozen, and jumping around whenever I tapped the screen, and thought I'd have to go to the Apple Store, where there is always a long line!

Oh my goodness, thank you for this answer. The blown up screen thing happened to me in the airport and I asked several and none of them had ever experienced it before. Thank you for your solution. Where do you find the answers for these weirdnesses that happen with iPhones and what is it that I am doing to it to make it happen?
OH my god!! You really saved me from the !&&* i was going through!! I thought of smashing the phone as it drove me crazy!! above to it i had to face this problem while i was at sea with low internet facilities.. U made my thing work again like it was!! Oh i really thank you for this answer bro!!... Cheeers .. turned off the zoom too!! love my iphone again :)
You are my hero! My screen all of a sudden became enlarged and I couldn't make a call, answer a call, turn off my phone or use it in any way. I've done it several times and had other people to try to fix it but I can't understand what I keep doing to make it enlarge. I tried the quick double tap of three fingers and it worked. I am forever in your debt.

Try tapping 3 times with 3 fingers if tapping twice doesn't work. That's what worked for me

This is perhaps the most stupidly conceived and poorly executed feature of the phone. Apple fails on this one. A big fat F. F for not anticipating that nearly every user who accidentally drags a lazy finger across the display and inadvertently triggers the blow-up mode will naturally assume that his or her phone has gone haywire and is frozen in some weird freak-out state of malfunction.
We have all had experiences with displays that are unable to interpret input signals properly and as a result they show us stretched images, shrunken images, images that are distorted vertically or horizontally. Is it any surprise that when you unknowingly trigger this massive zoom in, which results in a screen which becomes no longer responsive to the touch control you are used to, you freak out and think your phone is frozen? NO.
Apple, you get a lot of things just right. But you SUCK on this one. What happened. Was it Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend when you came up with this? Unbelievable.

Yep three finger tap worked for me too also turned the zoom off in settings .

Thank you for the easy fix!!! I've had my phone for two years and the zoom/freeze has happened so many times that I was ready to throw my phone out the window! I can't believe the solution was so easy! THANK YOU!!! :)

You have to tap SEVERAL TIMES WITH THREE FINGERS. :-) I also tryed the once with three fingers as i was scared to death i would blow it up to never never land. But the second time this happened I reread how to do this and sure enough it said tap several times with the three fingers and that was the trick!! It worked perfectly!!
I was in panic mode......3finger tapped worked. I turned zoom off in setting!!

I cannot believe this actually worked. I had been tapping like crazy while in my hand. I finally place it on a firm surface and presto it returned back to normal . I immediately turned off zoom. Thank you , thank you

I think I changed the font size accidentally in the phone itself and the three finger tap is not working for me. I can’t even turn it off to see if it will reset. Also my mac doesn’t recognize it, so I can’t back it up, The home font is so large that I can see 1 to enter my password, half of 4 and half of 2. How in the heck can I get out of this? Thanks in advance! I have an iPhone 7 plus.
