I have a Nook HD+. When I insert the charging cable the light turns green and stays that way. The light should go to orange to show that the Nook is charging. The issue is the charging cable. Barnes and Nobles has know about this problem since they first started selling the Nook HD+. I ordered my third cable in two years and the third cable did not last a month. The previous two cables lasted about a year each. I love the Nook but I feel like I'm supporting Barnes and Nobles cable division. Next year I will switch to an Amazon Fire.

I had the same problem Iwhere it would only go to 99% then stop so I took my nook back to Barnes and Noble and the lady showed me how to fix it. Hold the power key and the little upside down u key for 10 seconds until the nook goes off then power it back on and it should go into an update and it should be fine

Just plug one end of the cable into the Nook and the other into a MacBook Pro USB port. Works great!! Same with PC USBs, but I prefer Macs...they work...all the time...good luck!

THIS WORKS!!!!! We have found a solution!!!! Thank you!!!!!! You are such a gem. Ive read 9 books this semester and I came home for break this week and found this amazing nook HD and thought I’d give it a try so thank you!!! Spread the WORDDD!!!!

I can't believe this is the solution! It works! Glad I have a MacBook Pro-but I wouldn't invest in one if my used $30 Nook HD wasn't charging! The light was turning green, orange, off. Tried the wall charger, tried a PC USB port, tried a new cord, all to no avail. But started to charge when I plugged into the MacBook Pro USB port!

This also works with a Mac Mini 1.25GHz PowerPC G4 processor, 1Gb RAM and a 40Gb hard disk. I had the same problem. Wouldn't resume charge with any USB charger including the original provided one but the moment I plugged the USB cable into the Mac Mini USB port it fired up, the proper charging symbol appeared on the screen, not the lightning flash one, and away we go. Thank you.

I honestly can’t believe that worked. I had tried several other chargers and even the high powered usb charger from my pc

My mom has a Nook HD. The light would go from green to amber, then off in a few seconds. I have the charger that folds the plugs into itself so I wondered if that was it. I tried charging it on my computer also. Finally I plugged it back into the wall and held the power button down, not the U button, til the battery symbol showed up and it stayed on amber.

I could not get my nook to charge then I realized that it will not work correctly unless you use the USB wall plug adapter and the charging cord that came with the Nook. The light would turn green then immediately to amber then off. I have the nook wall USB plug adapter that the prongs folds into itself for storage. after I switched the to the original USB wall adapter it started charging right away. Frankie

There are many possible answers to this question, the best way to start is to get rid of the basic stuff first, have you plugged in the Nook HD and charged it to full battery? If this does not fix it, it is possible you have a faulty power button, battery or screen. See the troubleshooting guide here: Nook HD Troubleshooting for more information. Replacement guides are on their way for many components of the nook HD.

My nook HD Plus light is orange and its not charing the screen shows the battery with the power sign what should i do it been like this for 12+hours

I see that the Nook HD+ has a major battery problem. The techs have told me to not keep the HD+ charging all the time, it degrades the battery. Sometimes hold the power button until it turns off and then turning back on clears some problems. If it does not charge, find a good electrical source, cable sometimes disconnects. I have had it not turn on, wait a day, try charging and miraculously it starts charging. It has a lot of issues.

It is a battery issue, just trade in for new Samsung Nook, like I did. No problems now, the trash is thrown away at Barnes and Noble. Bad last generation of tablets. Bad engineering and faulty programming. I had to turn in HD+ twice to get HD+ that had no endless loops. 99% constant. Finally battery and screen died. New Samsungs can last 10 to 12 hrs on 1 charge.

I have been fighting this issue since my brother gave me his Nook because it never worked. First thing I encountered was that the battery was 'puffy' so I disposed of it and got a new battery. It still didn't start, even after all the advice on holding this button and that button down. I was going to throw it away when I looked closely at the battery in it's compartment. I saw that there was some wiggle room between the battery and the contacts even though the contacts still made battery contact. I unscrewed the battery hold down, took a sliver of a post it note and folded it over 4 times that with tweezers held it in place next to the screw behind the battery to act like a shim, pushing the battery towards the contact pins then screwed it back down. The Nook started like a champ with just a quick touch of the power button, like it's supposed to do. All updates done and ready to use. Total cost? The cost of replacing a bad battery, which you may not even need to do!

I had similar symptoms with my Nook HD+ : when plugged into charger the indicator light turned green, then orange, but only for a second, then went dark. When left on charger for many hours, the indicator would start blinking red. Nothing worked, until I read technical details in this post:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr...

The bottom line: if the battery voltage drops below 1.8 V, the stupid control chip assumes the battery is "bad" and refuses to pass the charging current; consistent with the observed symptoms. This gave me an idea on how to fix this:

Step 1: Open the Nook by prying the front panel to get access to mounting screws, then unscrew the back panel.

Step 2: Locate the battery cable composed of three red, three black, one blue, and one yellow wires.

Step 3: Locate the gold test points on circuit board _under_ the wires: "VBAT" under the red wires, "BAT-" under the black wires.

Step 4: You have to trick the control chip into "thinking" that the battery is still "good". For this, you'll need an external voltage source. I used my homemade adjustable DC power supply setting it to 2.5 V. I guess, any voltage between 1.8 - 3.7 should work.

Step 5: Connect the _positive_ lead from the external power source to the "VBAT" test point, connect _negative_ (or ground) lead to the "BAT-" test point.

Step 6: Plug your Nook into charger and wait a few seconds: the indicator light will now stay solid orange meaning the charging current is passing through. Yay! You should disconnect the external DC source; it's no longer needed.

Try a higher amp/watt power brick, tablets require more energy to charge. I had this problem and was using my small Apple power brick that came with my phone. I plugged the cord into both my iPad brick and a tablet specific brick and it started up charging just fine, full amber light and battery on the screen.
