Water Damage Part Replacement List

I've got a iPhone 4s that suffered water damage that I believe came into the device through the headphone port.

Can someone supply a recommended parts list of what that should be purchased to refurb it at this point? The phone appears to charge and will try to boot, but then crashes and will just re-start the same cycle.

Thanks in advance!

devenmorgan, sorry but there is not a standard list of parts that will fail due to water damage. The number one thing to do is to stop using the device, (remove the battery) and to totally disassemble it. Use these guides for that. Then clean it with +90% isopropyl alcohol. This will displace the water and stop corrosion. It it okay to submerge a board in isopropyl alcohol. Check this guide to show you how to do it. Do not forget to clean the connectors on the board as well as the cables. Check your board for any missing or damaged component. After that, air dry all the components. Then re-assemble with a new battery This is not optional but a must, to avoid failure later on. " Water damage is the toughest to trouble shoot and to repair. Sometimes you can diagnose it by the symptoms, most often not. Hope this helps, good luck.

oldturkey03 - Thanks so much! Will do. Do you know if iFixit is no longer carrying the actual logic board for the 4S's anymore? Also, are you aware of a tool like a drive adapter that would allow you to just access and pull data off of an iPhone's hard drive?

**to clarify** I'm guessing that if I have a problem with either the logic board or the battery of the phone itself that the drive would be inaccessible. I'm wondering if there is something like a USB Universal Drive Adapter for SATA drives that would allow me to pull the hard drive out of the phone itself and connect it such that I can access it's data.

devenmorgan, sorry there really is no adapter available. One would need a NAND reader in order to get to the data. Commercial recover facilities, or forensic labs do have those but the cost is prohibitive. You could consider sending it to one of those places to try data recovery. All information inside a smartphone is stored on IC's, not separate drives. Thank you for accepting my answer. Best of luck to you.
