The cover that covers charger port broke off

I recently bought a Samsung galaxy s5 about 3 weeks ago... the day after i got it my charging cover popped off... so for the past 3 weeks I would just manually put it on... but today i missed placed it and can't find it... does anyone have ideas on how i can protect my phone from water and dust damage or any replacement covers.

Hi sparkle,

I was wondering why you didn't return for warranty?

par

Mainly because i didn't want to go through the hassle of all that for one small piece

par

I wouldn't bother trying to get it warranty replaced... I was just told they don't even make the part yet (Obviously BS) and they're not sure when or if it will be covered since it's user damage.

Considering I have been extremely careful with it from day one... pretty sure it's not the user but a defect.

par

Same thing happened to me. I have Verizon and was told it was user damage. I had to send my phone to Samsung for repair.

par

Same thing happened to me. I didn't do anything rough with it at all. Really bad design. I just keep it on and hope I might try with AT&T but I expect they'll say the same thing - user damage.

The epoxy guy is crazy.

1: ebay - 4.99 order port cover

2: remove back

3: you will see 2 phillips screws on the bottom. the one on the left is the access port to replace the port cover.

LOL, I was amazed that SAMSUNG knew that thing would break a lot and made this a very simple repair.

I've been told they have to send it away and factory reset it to fix it! It will take ten working days! Thanks for the advice, I've bought a set of covers on Ebay and will do it myself.

Thanks for the info! Just replaced mine! :) Good as new.

Does it still maintain waterproofing function?

How's that replacement port cover? My epoxy is still holding. .... March 2015

So if the charging port cover is off, is it still waterproof?

I recently purchased a Galaxy s5 and the latch broke off. I went to my T-Mobile store and they replaced my complete order with no problems, took less than 15 minutes. I wasn't charged with no extra cost, and not even a re-stocking fee, very pleased with the service.

I just took mine off and put it away. I haven't had a water problem with cell phones ever and I've owned cell phones for over 12 years now.

So, since I'm not around water much and I'm not one who using the phone in the bathroom, and the fact that I've never gotten a cell phone wet in 12 years, I don't really need the waterproof feature, so I took the charging cover off.

With the battery cover off, you will see 2 Phillips screws on the bottom. the screw on the left is the access port to replace the port cover. You will have to pull the cover a bit as there is a lip that keeps it from sliding out easily... I imagine so you don't lose it.

My post on how I did this with pics is here:

Taking off the Micro-B USB 3.0 / charging cover.

I agree. When it breaks and it will. Just leave it off. Unless you are going to dunk your phone in the sink or bathtub it will be fine. When I had a Galaxy S3 it never had a cover and I used that phone for 2 1/2 years without an issue.

I contacted Samsung in a shout-out over Twitter and within 15 minutes I had an answer and after telling them what the deal was I had a UPS shipping label and they ended up replacing the whole rig. Don't sell them short just because of a small thing which ended up swamping them with complaints. I was pretty ticked off until in under 30 minutes and 5 days later my phone was perfect and replaced!

Thanks so much for the instruction. I was going to take my phone in but thought I would be turned away ... "user damage". I bought four of these (less than $2 each) and installed in 5 min ... with 3 for future since I can't imagine them lasting for more than 6 months with regular use.

Thanks again
