Sounds like you may have multiple problems--
It is possible that all of these problems *could* be caused by greasy pizza disease---the technician assembled your phone and transferred finger oils that are interfering with electrical contact necessary for some components to work. Rule out by having them clean and reassemble the phone.
The battery drain problem could be serious---the iPhone 5 has somewhat of a sensitivity of the U2 ic chip that controls the logic of the charging system. In many phones it becomes damaged after unrelated repairs---that one is difficult to fix, but battery drain problems must start with new battery and new dock connector.
It is entirely possibly, probably in fact, that an inexperienced technician or someone working too quickly has inadvertently knocked off some components on your motherboard in multiple places. This is repairable, but you'd have to send the motherboard out for repair.
Honestly, it sounds like this shop needs to give you a new phone, while they take yours and figure it out. I would ask them for a lender iPhone 5 and restore it from a backup.
good luck!

Would I not be better off to let someone else correct this? are you saying probably need a new battery and motherboard now because of mishandled repair? Would rather have it fixed quickly, but I am new to all this. Considering this has been three visits. Only charged me once, but still......
