Black Screen after a thorough cleaning?

I have a Mac Book Pro that I was given to service. What had happened, was that a full glass of red wine was spilled accidentally into the keyboard, thus ruining the computer.

I've given just about everything an incredibly thorough Isopropyl (Alcohol) cleaning. I replaced the Keyboard and put everything back together, making sure all the screws were put back correctly, and that the connections were solid.

However, to my surprise, even after the cleaning and even double checking of connections...It started; I could hear the boot tone, and the fans and HDD were spinning, but the screen was acting like it wasn't getting power.

All my connections have been triple and quadruple checked. I peeked at a couple of areas that may have gotten something in them (GPU & Processor) which was not possible. I reset some of the commands. I even ran a RAM test (Removing the RAM, then starting the computer) and that worked the way it's supposed to.

I've done nearly everything but bring it to another repair service (Which I'm not, because I'm the service for another, very patient, person).

However, even after a week and a half of trying to troubleshoot (Even looking online, which I'm not prone to do too often) I'm still stuck in the same pit.

I'm preparing for the worst however, like someone saying it's the motherboard (Or logic board, however you like to say it) at fault. That would ruin my week. But hey, things happen.

I'd be happy if anyone might be able to come up with a solution. This thing's been driving me crazy, even in school.

And if anyone needs to know, I am not a professional repair service (Though I understand the repair terms like a champ), I am a one-man team, and I can give any more information that is needed.

Thanks. -Andrew

I took one of the motherboard with all the cords still connected, one without the cords connected, and one of the back. Hope these suffice!

Andrew, give us the computers serial number so we can properly identify this model. Have you tried an external monitor and is that working? Post a couple of images of your logicboard so we can take a look at some components. Both sides of the board would be preferred. Use this guide Ajout d'images à une question existante to help you with that.

I just uploaded the photos, but to answer one question, I don't have a compatible external monitor, or in any case, a compatible cord (Not planning on buying one anytime soon unfortunately.).

And thanks for the guide. I was afraid I wouldn't get back to it.

Andrew, if you're going to do Mac Laptop repair or iMac, MacMini or MacPro repair, you just have to be able to test the GPU output via the video port. This machine uses the Mini DisplayPort.

I use an old monitor with two video inputs. I have a DVI cable on one and a VGA on the other. I also have a box full of assorted adapters. Just start with the one you need and build your collection as you need them.

Mini DisplayPort to DVI - $6.85 http://www.monoprice.com/Product?seq=1&f...

Mini DisplayPort to VGA - $8.99 http://www.rakuten.com/prod/mini-display...

I got a cable and hooked it to my monitor (One TV I have available) but still, it didn't work. After a solid checklist rundown, I've come to a solid conclusion that most of the components weren't getting power, so some of the connections were either corrupted or severed because of the spill. Still, thank you very much for the answer.

I just feel so depressed I wasn't able to get it completely fixed. Again, thank you for the suggestion.

You must check carefully using a flashlight if you can see a faint image of the desktop when the mbp is powered (if the computer can load the OS). If so that means that the problem is a lightning issue, maybe the backlight fuse is blown. If you only see a black screen then it's probably a logic board issue or a screen issue.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've already looked hard, practically squinting at it, and nothing. Actually, that was one of the first things I did. I've already triple-checked cords and connections too though. I'm going to full-out assume that it's the Logic Board. Thanks again for the suggestion! (I'll also note that thing wasn't more than a week old!)

While I'm not OP I have the same (15in Mid 2012 Macbook Pro 2.3Ghz) and I have the same problem, BUT I can see the faint image on my screen & can also use an external monitor just fine.

Where would the backlight fuse be, look like & I know enough about welding to solder it off & replace one.
