How can I attach a VESA mount adaptor to this monitor?

I'm hoping to attach two of these monitors to a sit/stand work station. It's configured for a PC and Apple told me to get VESA mount adaptors, but they only seem to work with newer Mac monitors. Has anyone figured out how to do this?

If you look at the Tech Specs page for a Cinema Display, the specs say "Compatible with VESA FDMI (MIS-D, 100, C) compliant mounting solutions. (Requires optional Cinema Display VESA Mount Adapter, M9649G/A)"

So if you get the M9649G/A, or perhaps this generic an Apple VESA Mount Adapter you should be Golden.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

I made clear to Apple what kind of monitor I have and they assured me the MD179ZM/A would work.

No.

Thanks! I'll see if I can exchange the two adapters purchased for the correct ones.

Carolyn - I wish I had seen your comment earlier. Apple techs (via phone) assured me that the MD179ZM/A would work. Not.Even.Close. For the first time ever, I am complaining loudly to Apple for this misdirect. :(

So wait, your saying you don't need the mount adapter? i'm confused because clearly you do. What's the answer to this question, I'm not buying a what is now called a vintage part that cost more then what the monitor is worth.

Does anyone have an actual solution to this problem?

par

@its4fern - No you do need an adapter to mount your display to a VESA mount. The issue here was they have two versions and you need the correct one for your monitor.

par

@Dan ok i see. I wish there was a 3rd party solution to this problem. The correct version's, "if you have the non LCD cinema display" going rate is somewhere near $300 which at this point is more likely the cost of that aging display.

I searched everywhere and haven't found anything affordable, if anyone has any suggestions.

@Dan I have a pre LCD apple cinema display. I never bought the adapter at the time because it wasn't something i needed or had the setup for. I now have a use for it, my display still works great, I got it in 06 and the adaptor rages anywhere from $200 to $400.

If i bought a non apple display around the same time I wouldn't need an adapter to mount it A and B i'm pretty sure it wouldn't cost the insane amount.

Clearly my only solution is to buy a new display.. that's my problem.

Sorry timing is everything. You could try looking though eBay or online junk stores.

How about the 30" Cinema Display? I really need the information on that! What kind of products I can choose from the current market to mount the screen on my wall?

par

Not all of the Cinema Display's offer a VESA-100 mount option. Check out this: VESA Mount Plate for Apple Cinema Display - A1081, A1082, A1267, A1058, A1076 If your unit is not listed here you'll need to look at a newer display. Once you have a mount on the display you only need a standard VESA-100 wall mount for a TV hardware.

Hello everyone, if you’re still looking for an alternative to the MG 9649G/A, to use on your old 30” Cinema Display, search for HumanCentric’s version which goes for $30. I don’t know why Ebay sellers are listing it for hundreds of dollars, when it’s just a piece of metal.

The instruction manual that I found confirms this and shows it very simple to install.

Good luck everyone.

It would, if HumanCentric offer 30" variant, which they don't (or don't any more).

I went this way before 3D printing my own for 20, 23 and 30 inch models. Look at Etsy for VESA Cinema Display. Not trying to make a living out of this, just helping other to hang these awesome displays on a wall : )
