Blank top screen, bottom screen hazy

Hi guys,

My 3DS XL's top screen is black (still on though) and the bottom screen has hazy vertical lines. Before this happened, the DS would randomly shut off. I think this is a common problem as I have seen other posters have similar issues, with no avail. I reseated the battery, checked the motherboard (though I don't really know what to look for), and reseated the wifi module. What should I do? Thanks

I can't be sure without being able to test it but it sounds like you have a problem with the bottom screen that is causing the top screen to not turn on all the way.

The good news is that the bottom screen is much easier to replace than the top. The bad news is that I think you probably will need to replace the bottom screen. If I would you I would get a bottom LCD that comes with the digitizer too. Since you already have it apart (assuming that you do this yourself) you might as well replace them both.

Unfortunately you can't be sure. There is no way that I know of to diagnose this for sure. I wish there was but I don't know of any. It's a bit of a risk to buy a new screen, but your only other option is to take it somewhere to have it fixed. You may be able to take it somewhere and see if they will diagnose it for you so you can fix it yourself.

I had a similar problem after replacing the lower shell of my 3ds xl to fix the hinges, but there's no haze on my bottom screen. Would replacing the lower lcd help, or would this require another solution?
