Have 4GB memory & would like to have 8..Do I have 1 4GB or 2X2 GB installed?...IE do I need one 4GB or 2X4GB to get to 8? mid 2009 Macbook-pro 5.5 with 2.53GHz Processor.

Use About this Mac to find out how much you have. Divide by 2 that's most likely what is in each bay (slot). 2 - 4GB chips = 8GB RAM.
