replace optical bay with 9.5mm HDD enclosure?

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if it's possible to take out the optical drive on my new i7 iMac and add an SSD boot drive using the 9.5mm HDD enclosure.

any tips appreciated. If the iMac actually has the same optical drive specs as Apple's laptops, this should be possible.

I see no problem with it except possible warranty voiding. But it can always be removed for service.

So I suppose the question is will the 9.5mm enclosure fit into the 27" iMac? iFixit doesn't list the iMac as compatible, but that might just be an oversight.

I just went through the iFixit teardown and it's actually a 12.7 mm bay, so I'd just use the 12.7 mm SATA Optical Bay SATA Hard Drive Enclosure. Mmm.. good! Am looking forward to using SSD as a boot drive.
