How update to date is your phone? Also have you tried letting the phone drain completely dead and then charge completely full without unplugging. Usually doing this drains the phone to adjust to the new battery. If that doesnt work you could just make sure your software is up to date or do a reset.

I use to have this problem as well and I realized that applications on phone can drain your battery. I use the battery usage feature to see which app is draining my battery and then update the apps. It worked for me. If you need more information please visit: http://www.technobezz.com/iphone-battery...

Really? Searching rapid battery drain in iphone 5 after battery replacement does NOT bring up U2 chip? I'm shocked.

Con is right, that is definitely the most likely case. The only other possiblity is a short on the board from some old water damage that you are unaware of. Worth it to open it up and have a look. Let us know what you see. If everything looks good, I'm afraid it is U2 ic chip. It will be hard to find someone willing to replace that for you. Sometimes I give it a shot, but I don't offer it professionally as a service.

yeah i am going to open it up this weekend and have another look, but if its specialist repair regarding this chip, then it will require re-balling, i.e soldering work????

@jessabethany what about replacing tristar prevents you from offering it as a service?

The U2 can be change I no it does require a specialist as its not a simple task

The cause for the blown U2 is when you use non genuine chargers

The U2 chip, eh? My iPhone 5 does the exact same thing. I hate that U2 chip, almost as much as I hate the band U2.

I found after investigating this issue further it seems a common problem that there is a defektive chip on the mainboard that causes this problem. so if under warranty, get it repaired or exchanged for another.

if its not under warranty anymore, maybe you could buy a broken iphone off ebay or somewhere like that, and swop mainboards.
