Jeff--I believe that error 53 is not solvable. It seems to me to occur during a restore that has a hardware defect--in my case a customer sent me a phone that clearly had a torn prox flex. Original home button. They had been getting red screen, and rather than try to fix the hardware defect they tried to restore (ugh--software can't fix hardware!). Came up error 53. Now even restoring that phone with all original hardware doesn't clear error 53. I believe that Apple was accepting error 53 phones since all iPhone 6 phones are still under warranty. Put it back together as original, and send it in.

Jessa, do you know if I take my iPhone 6 with Error 53 to an Apple Store, will they change it? I know im out of warranty, but will they change my phone even with a fee?

par

well for sure you can always turn in any iphone 6 for out of warranty exchange for $299.

par

Jessa, error 53 may be solveable by getting a new iphone home button that has never been turned on. Using it as the update goes through on the phone that error 53 occurs. I just saw a video on ifixit.vm

Then the core issue is that the home button is broken or replaced. If that is the case, the phone is beyond repair, at least for everyone on this planet that does not work for Apple.

Hi Tom, and what about ios 8.3 ? would restoring it will resolve fingerprint scanner and itunes error 53 due to fingerprint ?

If the Touch ID chip is broken, only Apple can save you.

I still have the original button, but I ripped a part of the cable coming out of it. Is it possible to get a new flex cable and attach it to the original home button?

par

Ajouter un commentaire

the problem is that the touch id flex cable and the home button itself are programed with the logic board of the device... so if you have the original touch id injured your device can notice that and it does not let the phone make the recovery .. u.u i have research a little in the web and i found that there is no solution avalible for this issue .. u.u if you get a solution i will be thankful if you share

The problem with error 53 is cumbersome a lot and it is even a waste of time and resources I don't want to confirm if it is a Rest In Peace issue to the iphone or iphone is in coma, but it is a tricky made by apple so as to get money out of it and worse enough they don't even comment on it at all or even post anything of concern on their support page , they don't want to officialize it and admit it is a technical error from the OEM and recall all crappy iphones from the market just like how VOLKS WAGEN motors did to preserve their reputation to VW customers on the huge emission of gas to their newly launched VW, so if you get that problem with your iphone go to your nearest apple store and claim for a new one, do not void your warranty by taking the phone to street technicians but behind the back there is something apple wants to do with the error 53 phones, Iam not sure how far apple has gone to ensure there is no re-occurrence of error 53 in the iphone 6S &6SPlus

error 53 caused by changed home button flex or broken . if it has been replaced, you had to save the original home button flex. Even tho you replace with new original home button flex from other original iphone, it won't work.

try to go to apple store right away but make sure every single part from your phone is apple original part from you original phone.

What if the ribbon case of my home bottom in my iphone is broken, but the home button flex cable (the flat one on the back of the metal plate) is okay, can I change the home bottom without changing the flex cable, and it won't result in error 53?

par

this problem caused by defective or replaced home button flex on the bottom, it is not related with home flex under the plate.

I've seen it twice this week, Wednesday with an iPad mini 3, I replaced the screen but kept the original home button intact 100% no damage, worked fine, restored it to wipe old data off it, just gets stuck halfway through with error 53 Ive tried a couple of software tool's with an exit recovery dfu mode but no good and exactly the same with an iPad Air 2 today I was preparing for sale. it wouldn't be an issue if you could get them back out of recovery and just live with no touch ID, but Ive got two very expensive boards heading to scrap.... bad week.

Had this issue with a phone that suffered alcohol spillage. I was constantly getting this error with original TouchID sensor (home button) and another one from a different phone. I had to replace the flex cable that goes from the TouchID sensor to the port and cleaned up the connector just in case. I used the restore function in iTunes with a specific IPSW file (8.4.1 in my case) and that seemed to work.

Now before I had this issue (error 53), my TouchID failed to setup in the setup settings. After I changed the flex cable, it doesn't give me the error but it fails to detect my finger. I honestly don't know where the issue might reside; is it the sensor or a solder joint or the crystal or something else?

Inside the .IPSW there is a buildmanifest.plist which can be modified to possibly disable FDR (touch ID sensor checks) and restore using libmobiledevice and terminal commands" idevicerestore.exe xxx.IPSW", OR commands" idevicerestore.exe -e -d XXX.ipsw" and of course the current corresponding firmware.. Use -l command to download and install your firmware automatically , in my case would be: "idevicerestore.exe -l iPhone7,2_9.1_13B143_Restore.ipsw" , for iphone 6 ( 7,2) IOS 9.1 firmware. Just an idea.. Not yet working but still testing and getting several different errors..

please could you expand on this more? I have changed the fdr parts from true to false and still get the error 53 during restore

par

im new to these matter, i have tried looking for the touch id in buildmanifest.plist, but i dont know where.

par

Ive tried several edits and changed several strings to disable the FDR check and force the iphone to upgrade but nothing has worked yet. You can search for the FDR string with plist edit pro within the buildmanifest or other plist's and attempt to bypass this check..

par

sorry. i am not programmer, with little knowledge about this plist thing.

1. i did a comparison. i dunno it will help or not. i compared an buildmanifest of ios 8.4.1 and ios 9.1, there is this one segment where in 8.4.1 says "false" on the "FDRsupport..." but on ios 9.1 says "true" on the"FDR support.."

2. i tried making is back to .ipsw, but i damaged the file by trying to restore, itunes says the file .ipsw is not supported. maybe im not doing it right.

3. please give a lead to me where to edit for the FDR check. in which part of the buildmanifest.plit.

im learning. sorry for not helping much

par

Sounds interesting, i never thought to check on older firmware. Are you extracting or renaming the .ipsw to .zip and then renaming it back? Also i have not tried to restore with itunes i am attempting custom restore with libmobiledevice console..

The long flex cable that hooks to the motherboard and goes behind the shield can get damaged very easy. When replacing the screen if the flex cable becomes damaged Error 53) will come up. If you replace the long cable it will restore or update. You can't replace the home button it is programed to your motherboard and if the home button breaks it will have to be repaired. If it needs replacing only apple can replace it. The new one will have to be programed by them. No one else can do it.

Error 53 on iphone 6 is easy to solve..you just have to replace the home button...and note... you must have the original home button...if you dont have. you have to get one from a new iphone 6..or you buy a original home button from amazon and most are fake..it worked for me when i replaced home button from another iphone 6

Have this issue also -- took my iPhone 6 to an Apple Store and they said it is a hardware/firmware issue and the phone will need the be replaced for $300. My phone was only about 14 months old and barely out of warranty. I made the case that the phone worked just fine until I tried to update to iOS 9, and then it got stuck in the "connect to iTunes" screen -- when I tried to restore, it failed with error 53. Anyway, pretty disappointed in Apple's lack of standing by the quality of their product. Their response was "Well, you should have gotten Apple Care". Bullshit. My phone is barely a year old, never got wet, always protected in a shock-proof case, never handled roughly, and worked fine until this update. A $450+ product should not fail due to a company-pushed update.

Regardless, I am interested in hearing more about the flex cable replacement I have the original touched home button -- is it correct to say that I should be able to replace the flex cable and potentially solve the problem?.

If you have the original touch ID the restore should go through fine. You should test it out by trying the device in DFU mode and try to restore that way. Error 53 is ONLY is the touch ID is broken or fails.

Concur with other answers relating to the original touch ID, but more commonly its the flex that connects the HB to the LB that is faulty or has been torn slightly during repair, its a $2 part so you may as well try that first.
