There are many different Apple Cinema Displays put out over the years with different connectors. Please tell us which one you have.

I have a dodgy VGA cable on my 30" apple cinema display. Not sure which version it is as i'm not in front of it at present. It's a few years old. The cable is hard wired to the back of the monitor. I have had to put a kink in it and tape it near to the plug to make it work, but it still needs a wiggle every now and again to come back to life. a) how could i replace this cable? b) is it best to get an electrician to cut it and try to work back up the cable?

Is this related to the first question posted here? If not, please ask as a new question when you are in front of the monitor in question. It really helps if we know what monitor we are talking about.

i would say yes that it is related. i believe we are both talking about replacing a cable that is hard wired to the back of the monitor. we are both talking about an apple 30" cinema display. i don't believe it matters what model it is. you either can or can not fix the cable genius!

I have managed to salvage mine for at least a little while longer by removing the big plastic button that screws into the lcd. i removed that and about an inch of the sheathing, as well as disconnecting some of the wire clamps to let everything kind of dangle. be sure to wrap all your newly exposed wire in electric tape and i would also do the aluminum hole in the back of the display. every now and then it goes screwy but i quick reposition of the cable and power down fixes it everytime...fingers crossed.

it's not the prettiest solution but it can save you a lot of money...
