mymom acsidentily put my iPod touch in the washer what now?!

Hi everyone!

A few days ago on like Sunday, My mom accidently put my ipod touch through the washer. when I received it back from the washer, obviously I tried to turn it on and it did not turn on the little apple logo didn't even show up. So I try to turn it on a few times a day and I haven't touched it today but I put in some rice before going to the movies at 10:15pm and did not touch it until today at about 1:00pm and my ipod touch has not turned on since it was put in the washer! I still have hope so I don't think its completely "dead" I feel there is at least one more ways to bring it back "Alive" Can someone please help me!

Rice rarely works as only a few types will really help you out. Based on what you're saying it doesn't look like you will have much luck but I'd like to give you one option that you still have left to try.

If you have any silica gel (the little packets that you get when you buy new shoes), I would empty as many of those as possible into a sealable bag and leave it in the bag for two straight days. Don't open the bag, don't plug in the iPod, and don't try to turn it on. If you don't have any laying around the house you can buy some online for less than $15. Again, leave it there for two days and don't touch it at all.

I don't know how much of a chance you have with this working since you've been trying to power it on but it's worth a shot. Let us know how it works out for you.

Best of luck!

Munkeyunk, are you suggesting that, to repair this iPod, all you need to do is to place it in silica gel?

par

Oldturkey, I wish it was that easy. But you probably know what a pain it is to get an iPod touch open without breaking the screen, especially for someone who doesn't do it on a regular basis. Putting it in silica gel is not an ideal repair, but it is the easiest thing to do without a lot of technical knowledge.

As I said there's not a great chance of it working but some chance is better than no chance.

Allysa Floyd, first you should tell us which iPod touch you have. That will help us to get you to the right guides. If you are going to use any desiccant like rice or silica, you have to at least open the device. BTW, none of those will help you with your repair. Next you will definitely have to open your ipod up. Once opened, you will have to remove the logicboard. Then clean every part with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol. Since you have it going through the washer, you can also start with sterile water (not drinking water) and rinse all the part off, then use the alcohol. Once properly cleaned, replace the battery. This is not optional but a must. Clean it with isopropyl alcohol. Use this guide to clean your iPod. It was written for an iPhone but all the points are pertinent to your iPod as well.

oh and I have no idea what u are talking about

There are currently five different models iPod Touch. Which model is yours? Sorry about "have no idea what u are talking about " Hope you get it fixed. Good luck.

What we are talking about is asking you WHICH iPod touch you have because there are many of them. This is like saying "I have an oldsmobile" when someone asks you the model of your car to provide you with a new muffler. There's more than one oldsmobile, and there's more than one iPod touch. They've been making a new model every year or two for the past seven years now!!!

Ignore the BS about silica gel and rice, that is not repair, that is just BS and a total waste. Open the iPod, remove the motherboard, place it in 99% alcohol, gently toothbrush. then put in an oven at 275f for a few hours.

Or have mommy buy a new one.
