Trackpad ability to click is randomly successful. Can it be replaced?

A while back the amount of clicks accepted by the trackpad was was fading. I opened up the MacBook Pro, cleaned and tried different settings to the trackpads click adjustment screw. This seemed to work but not 100%. Since then it has slowly faded to the point where i don't use the trackpad for clicking. I now tap to click. this is only a partial solution since click and drag becomes a huge hassle. All the other functions of the trackpad work fine.

Is there a good trackpad cleaning tutorial?

Is it possible to replace the trackpad?

I had the same problem. In my case it was a faulty battery. It might get swollen after some hours of use. The trackpad is directly above the battery, so the swollen battery might prevent the trackpad accepting double clicking...

I have recently replaced the trackpad on my MBP due to it being cracked, not failing. So, as far as adjustment of the tri-wing screw goes, I can't speak too much about that. If you tried different settings and it still won't spring back, the trackpad may be fubar.

As far as replacing it goes, it was surprisingly easy. So I'm not typing the whole thing over again, read my comment on my question here:

I wish I had photos, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I hope my write-up is easy to follow.
