iPad mini not charging

I've got an iPad mini here that came in for charge port replacement. When I got it open, I found that someone had already attempted the repair and left it in pretty bad shape. The flex wasn't soldered to the board, and the board was damaged (some of the pads scraped off). In any case I went ahead and soldered a new port flex to the board... I've tested it and power is getting to the board when It's plugged in, but the iPad still won't charge. I'm guessing that whatever problem existed before they tried the initial port replacement is still there, but I haven't done enough iPad work to know where to look. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

Check for 5Volt on all the points I marked. If you do not have 5V on the blue mark, you are having issues with Q5700. The red marks come from the lightning connector, so if you do not have 5V on L5700 it can be either from the connector or L5700 has failed. If you do not have 5V on the green then there are issues with Q5701. Another big contender for a failed charging circuitry is D8100.

Thanks for the info! Good stuff to have. Unfortunately, the customer decided not to pursue the issue any farther, so I guess we'll never know what was wrong with this one! I'll keep the info for future repairs though.

Hello Mate, because of the situation , No body can help you. as nobody know what he has done to it. But sounds like Power management IC is faulty or related circuit. Check all of the line one by one will solve the issue.

I'm with Ways on this. Time to go through the charging schematic one point at a time under the scope. I'm also hoping you repaired the damaged pads you found before soldering on the new cable.

I love the Minis but there are just so many points of failure on these guys and tracing them down can be more trouble than they are worth.

I did my best to repair the damage, but whoever worked on it before had scratched down into the board under the pads. They did uncover a conductor down there, but I'm not sure if they were in the right layer. The power comes in on multiple points though, and power was definitely getting to the board. Customer doesn't want to look further though, so I'll never know what the problem was...
