Ipod won't work: Black screen with apple logo

Hi guys, a little while back I connected my ipod to a car charger and the screen turned black. It smelled like something started burning inside but the smell went away really fast. When I turn it on, all it shows is the black screen with the apple logo. I replaced the battery and it's still showing the same thing. Any ideas what I should do or what part I should replace? Thank you so much guys, I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Update

can anyone tell me what an small ipod man with 2 x outed eyes means?

pritchard4448520001 you should not attach this as an answer since it isn't one :) you should really ask your own question since it is easily overlooked if it is not as a question. What generation ipod do you have? Is it the sad face icon that you are referring to? Sad (unhappy) face means dead ipod, in my experience it is usually the HD that has probably failed. But just my two cents. You should really supply more information,

You can try this TIP #1 iPod universal TEST MODE! Press Menu and the center Select button at the same time and hold (like a soft reset) however once the Apple Logo appears release and press BOTH the BACK (|<<) and the Select (center) and hold till the drive spins up. If you did it correct the apple logo will reverse (flip) and go into the 3 in 1 or 5 in 1 test use >>| or Menu to scroll thru all the test and options...you can rune the 3-1 or 5-1 test and check many major components, USB, HDD, Audio/Video. Then just order and replace the missing damaged parts. As for your update, the sad (unhappy) face means dead ipod, in my experience it is usually the HD that has probably failed. Good Luck.

If it just hangs on the Apple logo, it's most likely the logic board. Third party devices such as chargers are notorious for shorting the iPod and causing permanent damage. Sorry!

Visually everything looks ok inside. All the flexes are connected properly and nothing looks damaged or out of place. Sorry for the dumb question, but what is the mobo? Are you talking about the board? Thanks for your help.

fyi the mobo is the mother board a.k.a. Mainboard.....

its not if everything is connected......the ipod turns on for a moment....what happens when you hook it up to itunes?? If nothing works you could contact the company who makes the car charger maybe they can pay to get the ipod fixed(or replaced!) if you think the charger messed it up....
