The speaker will not turn on when running off of the battery!
When the speaker isn't connected to the outlet and running of the battery, it will not turn on.

Hi,
If it works when powered from the outlet but not when running on the battery, it seems that there is a problem with the battery.
What indication do you get when you check the status of the battery?
Here is a link which describes how to check the status of your battery and what to do if battery is low. If no light shows at all the battery is completely flat or is faulty. Try charging it. If a yellow light comes on when you charge the battery, does it change to green? Allow a suitable length of time for this to occur, (Bose say up to 3 hours). If it doesn't change it is faulty and needs to be replaced.
