HD Does not exist.

I have a housemate's laptop that when switched on just quietly clicks and despite using F10 and trying to boot from a repair disc it says that there is no hard drive present. Everything was working fine until yesterday. Any advice would be gratefully received.

martin, " just quietly clicks "this is usually caused by a failed hard drive. Check to make sure that it is still properly connected. If it is, check the BIOS to see if it shows up as a drive. If it does not, you will have to replace the HDD
