Internal, External Hard Drive Business

I took out my hard drive on my iMac and wanted to transfer the whole thing to my Sony external hard drive and I already did the partition on the external but how am I supposed to do this on my Sony Vaio PC? Please help!

My PC doesn't read the iMac hard drive just says "Removable Disk (D:)"...

Thank you if you helped or even answered, you guys really help a lot of people and again thank you for that!

As Dan says above, Mac and Windows use different file systems and they are not natively compatible. That said there is software available to enable you to read disks on each other's systems. The following link has a few options available to you. I've not used the free option that uses Java RE, but I have used the Paragon software and it does what it says on the tin.

Mac's and MS Windows systems use different file structures on the HD. You can't just copy the files externally as you have tried here. You'll need to hookup the drive back to your Mac system and the via a network connection (Ethernet or WiFi) copy off the compatible data files.

Many of the Apps you have on your Mac drive won't work natively on the Windows system unless you have a VM application that allows you to run Mac OS apps on your MS Windows system. You may also find some of the data files won't work under MS Windows as well as you'll need the MS Windows version of the App or one that is able to read the data file as an example the application MS Word is available in both a Mac OS-X & MS Windows version and the documents you crete in one is accessible in the other (as long as the both are the most current versions).
