My computer seems to reboot and not start at all, any opinions?

So I've had a computer for about six years. It's a Pentium 4, Windows XP, I made it, so I am unsure of the parts in it because it's been awhile. But I am hoping this is a hardware question that could be answered. Anyways...every time I start my computer the start screen comes up but right before it's about to go to log in page, it restarts and so I am never able to get to the desktop, and this has been happening for about 6 months now. Does anybody might know what the deal is? This is a desktop btw.

Does it give you any error message?

No it doesn't. It just doesn't boot up at all, and stays on the windows loading page, until it resets

I've seen this problem before and it's usually caused by one of two things:

1) Bad OS installation - If XP hasn't been reinstalled in the past 6 years, there is a decent likelihood that something has become corrupted. Try to boot into safe mode by pressing F8 right after the BIOS screen and see if you can get in to the OS for more diagnostics.

2) Hardware problem - Two possibilities here. First reseat *every* connection in the system as small amounts of corrosion on the connections can affect things after long periods of time. If this doesn't fix the issue, it is possible that your RAM has degraded and is no longer stable. Try running with less memory and use different sticks on each attempt. If this solves the problem, you can just run with less memory or purchase replacement chips.

Good luck.

Could it also be that I don't have a genuine copy of windows? lol

It seems that one or maybe more windows system files are corrupt. You could attempt to access the Recovery Console from a Windows XP installation disk and run DiskCheck to verify if the HD is intact.

Is Windows set to restart every time there's a crash so you don't see a blue screen of death???

You can check by following the steps outlined here:

most likely its a heat issue,if the fans are dead, or if the metal heatsicks are clogged up with dirt then the computer doesnt properly cool itself and shuts off. what you can do

1. Check if your fans are working properly

2. remove the dirt away from your computer with a spray

I have seen and solved this problem several times. It usually stems from a hard drive error. There is a program called Spinrite that specifically fixes these types of errors. You can find it here:
