No power after dock replacement

I bought an iPhone 3G on eBay thinking I can fix it. According to the seller, it won't power on after a USB dock replacement.

I tested the screen and battery on my other working iPhone 3G and they both work. But if i put the logic board, it won't power on.

I'm suspecting a damage logic board, but thought to ask your expert opinions/advice.

Solution retenue

take a look at connector 4 to see if any damaged pins/dirt etc. is it water damaged (pink sensors on top of logic board cover?) in which case try taking metal cover off and clean with isopropyl alcohol.

if you put screen on logic board is it recognised in itunes? if it is then maybe its the connectors for the display and not power..

the other place could be connector 5 which is for power button-again check for damaged pins/dirt.

is there any damage to the phone you bought? the location of big scuffs etc might give you a clue about which part is damaged...

Update

the tape connecting metal plates? do you mean on the side of the front assembly? it doesn't really do much so you can live without it. i think if you've tried all the obvious and swapped the board into a working phone you probably have a dud. i have the same trouble with one of my phones and am just going to cut my losses as i don't have the skills to do micro soldering on whichever little part is causing the problem. sorry i couldn't help more. maybe markus can help...

there doesn't seem to be any water damage, or any signs of major damage. However there is no tape connecting the two metal plates. I also tried connecting it to iTunes, but still nothing. I even tried holding the power and home button for 5+ mins. Nothing. I will check connectors 4 an 5. In case there is damage on the pins, can it still be fixed?
