stuck in recovery mode

My ipod was fully functioning as of this morning, but it was not recognized in iTunes. So I put it in recovery mode and tried to restore it in iTunes - iTunes recognized the ipod but did not restore successfully, gave me error 2003.

Now it is stuck in recovery mode - forever. I've used usblib, dfu mode, redsn0w, and iReb. The closest it got to working was with redsn0w, when the screen changed to a green arrow on a hard drive with "downloading jailbreaking data" under it. But the ipod just restarts after 10 minutes in recovery mode again.

What on earth can be done?

Options

If the iPod will not work after putting it into DFU mode and restoring it with iTunes, then the main board is broken and you will need to replace it.
